Art Club                                           
5th grade

Students work on a variety of art related projects, including murals for the library. Club meets on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm beginning September 27th through December 20th.

Arts & Crafts Club

Students will create seasonal crafts.  They will create mosiacs, mobiles and mod pog crafts to take home.  *DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Astronomy Club

This club will meet two or three evenings for Stargazing events, dates will be determined last minute based on weather. These events will be open to all students, families are welcome and encouraged.

This before-school practice is the full ensemble element of our instrumental music curriculum. It lasts most of the year for concert/performance preparation. There are several performances outside the school day. Group meets Thursday mornings at 7:50 am at Media Elementary School, September through May. Students must have their own transportation to Media, and are then bussed to Glenwood before the beginning of the school day.

Chemistry Challenge

“You Be the Chemist Challenge”: Students will spend each bi-weekly session observing and performing science experiments. During the time in between sessions, students will work on assigned projects aimed at reinforcing chemistry concepts and chemical facts and measurements. *DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Envirothon Challenge

The program is a hands-on outdoor competition designed to challenge and test student’s knowledge of soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues. Students will navigate through a gamified program becoming experts in various categories maximizing our performance.  *DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Hand Bell Choir

Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper instrumental techniques including but not limited to phrasing, musical elements, music literacy, and ensemble preparedness. They will have performances on and off Glenwood’s campus, including visits into the communities in and around Media, PA. Club will meet Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8am – 8:30 am beginning in October through December.

Intramurals

Intramurals sports program offers a level of instruction beyond that received in the physical education classes. Typically, each session will serve as an extension of the activities featured in the 5th grade curriculum. Fourth grade students will benefit from an early introduction to the various sports or games. The program will run from 3:45 – 4:45 pm on days when school is in session, with boys on Mondays and girls attending on Wednesdays. The final day will be December 14th

Junior Optimist Club

Junior Optimist Club is a club for students in grades four and five. The club is part of the larger-scale Optimist Club of Media. The club spreads optimism and positivity throughout the community and school by creating and taking part in service projects. The students take part in many service projects during the school year, including Halloween Candy drive for the homeless, Pennies for Patients (collecting money for childhood cancer), Terracycle (recycling school supplies for less-fortunate schools), Kindness is Contagious (giving students and staff opportunities to complement each other), and many projects for our friends at Fair Acres. Club will meet monthly Wednesday mornings from 8am – 8:45 am.

Newspaper Club

Newspaper Club is comprised of fourth graders who interview, write articles, and take photographs to report Glenwood news to the community. The club will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.

Reading Olympics

Students will read books from a pre-set list of books. Students will then summarize the books and write questions about them. They will come to meetings and discuss the books with others as well as quiz each other in preparation for the competition. Group will meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 4pm. Competition will be held 5pm- 9pm and date will be determined during the first week of May.

Rhythm in Motion

Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper instrumental techniques including but not limited to phrasing, musical elements, music literacy, and ensemble preparedness. They will implement higher level musical sticking skills, and improvisation techniques. Rhythm in Motion will begin in January through June, meeting Monday & Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.

Robotics Club

This club will explore, build and compete using LEGO Mindstorms robots. *DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Rubik’s Cube & Rubik's Mosaic Club

Students will spend three weeks learning the algorithm for solving cube, followed by three additional weeks working on creating mosaics of famous Glenwood people out of Rubik’s cubes. *DATES TO BE DETERMINED 

Running/Walking Club               
4th & 5th grade                                   
Mrs. Barry & Mrs. Omlor
Students will participate by running and walking outside. Moderators will discuss benefits of exercise for health benefits and many school benefits as well. There will be two sessions offered, Fall and Spring. Each session will run for eight weeks, Thursday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. 

Scrabble Club

Students meet once a week to learn word and spelling strategies and apply them while playing Scrabble. Club meets weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Science Lab.  Depending on response, club may be broken into 2 separate sessions. *DATES TO BE DETERMINED

Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper vocal techniques including but not limited to breathing, phrasing, diction, musical elements and music literacy. They will have performances throughout the year on and off Glenwood’s campus, including visits into the communities in and around Media, PA. The group will meet Tuesday & Friday mornings from 8 am – 8:50 am beginning in October through June.

Students will participate and help organize positive school activities throughout the year. The group will hold monthly meetings beginning in October on Friday mornings from 8 am – 8:45 am.

Video Club

Students will videotape, edit and produce videos that share news, activities, and information with the Glenwood community. The group will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm October through June.

Yoga Club                                        
3rd & 4th grade

Yoga club is designed to teach students basic and intermediate yoga practices. Our goal is to give students strategies for stress relief for the mind and body. Yoga is a great way for students to start their day focused and energized. Group will meet Monday mornings from 8:15 – 8:45 am, there will be two sessions: the first one will run November through January and the second will be held February to May.
