Mr. Snyder is currently Director of Bands at Penncrest High School in Media, PA. His duties include directing the Roaring Lions Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Jazz Lab, coaching jazz combo and various chamber groups, teaching courses in AP Music Theory and music technology, and serving as the music coordinator.
Mr. Snyder grew up in Bethel Park, PA and began his study of trumpet at age ten after his parents wouldn’t let him play the drums. He holds degrees in music education from Penn State University and the American Band College at Southern Oregon University. In the fall of 2019 Mr. Snyder began his 28th year in music education. He has worked at the elementary level in the Methacton School District, junior high band and general music in the William Penn School District, middle school band and general music at Springton Lake Middle School. For the past 17 years he has been Director of Bands at Penncrest High School.
Mr. Snyder has performed in professional situations with big bands, jazz combos, rock bands, wedding bands, salsa bands, brass ensembles, orchestras, concert bands, musical theater, church services and ceremonial wedding music. He has shared the stage with notable artists such as Allen Vizzutti, Bobby Watson, Roger Ingram and Wayne Bergeron, and under the batons of Dr. Alfred Reed, Colonel John Bourgeouis, and Colonel Arnald Gabriel. He has studied lead trumpet with Gary Adams and improvisation with Dan Yoder and Jimmy Amadie, and conducting with Andrew Yozviak, Peter Boonshaft, Jerry Junkin, and Frank Battisti.
Mr. Snyder is an active clinician of concert band and jazz festivals in the Philadelphia area, and is an adjudicator with Rhythms International and Creative Arts Workshops. In the summer of 2011, he was selected to be one of the conductors for American Music Abroad. His ensembles at Penncrest have received numerous awards locally and nationally. In 2015 the Jazz Band was selected to perform at the PMEA Annual Conference. In 2017 the Flute Ensemble also performed at the Conference. The Penncrest Wind Ensemble has received Superior ratings in every adjudication in which it has participated dating back to 2004.
Mr. Snyder is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity. From 2015-2017 he served as PMEA District 12 President. In 2018, he was a finalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year award.
