Board Urges State Officials to Prioritize Teacher Vaccinations

The Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors is urging Pennsylvania officials to prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for teachers and school staff.

At its January Legislative Meeting, the board approved a resolution calling on “the General Assembly to secure the proper amount of COVID-19 vaccines to vaccinate our educators now.”

Access to the vaccine is one of a number of factors that help support increased opportunities for in-person learning for students. While vaccination will remain voluntary for staff, the board acknowledges that it represents yet another important mitigation strategy to add to the layered mitigation strategies that are already in place.

At the current rate of vaccination in our county, many teachers may not be vaccinated until well into the next school year. For these reasons, the board implores state officials to consider educators essential workers and make the vaccination of public school employees a priority.

RTMSD and other Delaware County school districts have had a staff vaccination plan in place since February 13, 2021.
