Dear RTMSD School Community,
We are continuing to move forward with the planning of our proposed new elementary school located in the 1500 block of Middletown Road in Edgmont Township . As part of this planning process, Edgmont Township will hold a Special Planning Commission Meeting on September 20th at Springton Lake Middle School at 7:00 PM. At this meeting, the District will present a preliminary plan and there will be an opportunity for public comment where residents can give their feedback on the proposal.
The new elementary school will address the increasing school enrollment that is occurring and will continue to occur over the next several years. The new school will also alleviate the over-enrollment at Glenwood Elementary and Rose Tree Elementary that is occurring as a result of absorbing students from the many new developments in Edgmont Township. We are excited that we may finally have a neighborhood elementary school in all four townships that comprise the Rose Tree Media School District (Media Borough, Upper Providence, Middletown, and Edgmont) as well as to have a neighborhood school that will allow shorter bus routes to and from school for our students living in the the outer neighborhoods of Edgmont and Upper Providence Townships.
We hope that you will plan on attending the meeting to hear more about the plans and to add your voice to the support of the new school. While we anticipate that there may be some opponents to the location of the new school as residents adjust to having a new school nearby, it will also be important for the township to hear from our families that understand the need for and importance of having a neighborhood school more centrally located to our students and families in Edgmont and Upper Providence. You can also follow the planning process and find additional information about the proposed new school on the Room to Learn, Room to Grow website.
