    Art Club                                           
    5th grade

    Students work on a variety of art related projects.  Club meets on Tuesdays from 3:30–4:30 pm September to December.

    Arts & Crafts Club

    Students will create seasonal crafts using a variety of art mediums such as paint, tissue paper, and paper.  The club will run for eight weeks Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm from February to April.

    This before-school practice is the full ensemble element of our instrumental music curriculum. It lasts most of the year for concert/performance preparation. There are several performances outside the school day. Group meets Thursday mornings at 7:50 am at Media Elementary School, September through May. Students must have their own transportation to Media, and are then bussed to Glenwood before the beginning of the school day.

    Students will bake and decorate cupcakes to be used during Birthday Bash each month.  They will utilize math and science skills to learn about baking and decorating cakes.

    Broadcasting Club

    Students will prepare for a month of announcements looking for tidbits to add to each week's announcements while learning broadcasting skills.  Club will meet a few mornings then daily at 8:55 am to make daily announcements.

    Crazy 8's Math Club

    This recreational math club encourages students to enjoy the math behind their favorite activities.  This involves building structures, making music, playing games, hunting for clues, and enjoying movement activities.  The club will hold 3 sessions on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm (1) October -November, (2) March-April, (3) May-June.

     Dance Club

    Students will express their creativity through dance, they will learn (&teach) new dance moves to today's popular songs.  The group will meet Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm October through December.

    Students will work together to create a short on-stage production.  

    Envirothon Challenge

    The program is a hands-on outdoor competition designed to challenge and test student’s knowledge of soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues. Students will navigate through a gamified program becoming experts in various categories maximizing our performance.  Group will meet Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45pm February through May.
     

    Garden Club

    Students will learn about plants and gardening - parts of plants, difference between annuals and perennials, what plants need to grow, forcing bulbs, growing seeds, as well as planting flowers around the school.  There will be two sessions: (1) March-April and (2) April-May.

    Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper instrumental techniques including but not limited to phrasing, musical elements, music literacy, and ensemble preparedness. They will have performances on and off Glenwood’s campus, including visits into the communities in and around Media, PA. Club will meet Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8am – 8:30 am beginning in September through December.

    Intramurals sports program offers a level of instruction beyond that received in the physical education classes. Typically, each session will serve as an extension of the activities featured in the 5th grade curriculum. Fourth grade students will benefit from an early introduction to the various sports or games. The program will run from 3:45 – 4:45 pm on days when school is in session from September to December, with boys on Mondays and girls attending on Wednesdays.

    Students will organize books in the library, learn abotu library processing and book repair.  They will meet mornings 8am - 8:45 am.

    Junior Optimist Club

    Junior Optimist Club is a club for students in grades four and five. The club is part of the larger-scale Optimist Club of Media. The club spreads optimism and positivity throughout the community and school by creating and taking part in service projects. The students take part in many service projects during the school year, including Halloween Candy drive for the homeless, Pennies for Patients (collecting money for childhood cancer), Terracycle (recycling school supplies for less-fortunate schools), Kindness is Contagious (giving students and staff opportunities to complement each other), and many projects for our friends at Fair Acres. Club will meet monthly Wednesday mornings from 8am – 8:45 am.

    This club will explore building with LEGOs to meet criteria based on challenges set for third graders.  The club will meet Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm.

    Newspaper Club

    Newspaper Club is comprised of fourth graders who interview, write articles, and take photographs to report Glenwood news to the community. The club will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:45 pm September to June.

    Reading Olympics

    Students will read books from a pre-set list of books. Students will then summarize the books and write questions about them. They will come to meetings and discuss the books with others as well as quiz each other in preparation for the competition. Group will meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 4:00pm October through April. *Competition will be held 5pm- 9pm and date will be determined.

    Rhythm in Motion

    Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper instrumental techniques including but not limited to phrasing, musical elements, music literacy, and ensemble preparedness. They will implement higher level musical sticking skills, and improvisation techniques. Rhythm in Motion will begin in January through June, meeting Monday & Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.

    Scrabble Club

    Students meet once a week to learn word and spelling strategies and apply them while playing Scrabble. Club meets weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Science Lab.  Depending on response, club may be broken into 2 separate sessions: January - February and February - March.

    Auditioned students will expand on their musical skills by learning and implementing healthy and proper vocal techniques including but not limited to breathing, phrasing, diction, musical elements and music literacy. They will have performances throughout the year on and off Glenwood’s campus, including visits into the communities in and around Media, PA. The group will meet Tuesday & Friday mornings from 8 am – 8:50 am beginning in October through June.

    Students will participate and help organize positive school activities throughout the year. The group will hold monthly meetings beginning in October on Friday mornings from 8 am – 8:45 am.

    Ukulele Orff Club

    Students will rehearse and perform throughout the year, applying musicianship skills and build teamwork collaboration.  Club will meet weekly afternoons from 3:30-4:15pm October to June.

    Students will videotape, edit and produce videos that share news, activities, and information with the Glenwood community. The group will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:45 pm October through June.
