Atplaymusic Recorder Free

(Free download, with option to purchase full app )

Grades 3, 4, & 5

Mr. S says:

Fun an interactive app for beginning and progressing on recorder. Students can create an avitar that they can customize as they progress. There are many play-a-long lessons, puzzles, games, and the best part is the iPad's microphone picks up the sound of the recorder and can assess pitch and rhythm. My favorite activities that utilize this feature are the "Spin the Pinwheel" which demonstrates the correct amount of air to breath into the recorder, and the "Fill the cups" game for breath duration.

 Dust Buster 2

(Free Download with optional purchases)

Grades 1-5

Mr. S says:

Dust Buster 2 is an app for beginning piano performance. It turns the iPad into a virtual keyboard / piano and through an old lady removing pesky dust mites teaches you the notes for fun songs. It has multiple play-along tracks and with each correct performance you unlock more difficult songs. I like that you have the ability to practice each song multiple times before taking the performance test.

Tune Pad

(Free Download)

Grades 1-5

Mr. S says:

Cool app, lets you compose music visually. You can manipulate the pitch by highlighting different squares. High squares are higher pitches, lower squares are lower pitches.

Garageband

( $4.99 )

All ages

Mr. S says:

The best music app for the ipad. Very expansive and well worth the 5 bucks. You can compose all different kinds of music by performing on digital instruments or selecting from a loop library. You can also record live audio / sounds. The sampler instrument is very fun, just ask our 5th graders.

Toca Band

(Free Download with optional purchases)

All Ages

Mr. S says:

Fun free app. It allows you to create a various songs using little characters that each do something musically different. Layer the characters by the stage you drag and drop them on to create a song. Drag a character to the solo star and have them perform by touching and sliding on the screen.

Monkey Drum

(Free Download with optional purchases)

All Ages

Mr. S says:

Simple app geared toward younger students. Monkey see monkey do!
