      RTMSD Fitness Challenge: Physical Fitness Program
 
  • This program helps assess the current fitness level of youth, and offers awards to encourage them to stay active. 
    • "Excellence" Award - Recognizes youth who achieve an outstanding level of fitness.  
    • "Achievement" Award - Recognizes youth who demonstrate a basic, yet challenging, level of fitness.
    • "Improvement" Award - This award is for those students who improve in all five tests from fall to spring.
 
  • The Physical Fitness Program includes five events that measure muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, speed, agility and flexibility.
    • Curl-ups:  Measures abdominal strength & endurance by max number of curl-ups performed in one minute.
    • Push-ups:  Measures upper body strength and endurance by max number of push-ups completed.
    • Pull-ups:  This measures upper body strength and endurance by max number of pull-ups completed.
    • Endurance Run/Walk:  This measures heart & lung endurance by fastest time to cover a 1/2 mile distance.
    • Sit and Reach:  This measures flexibility of lower back and hamstrings.
